A WORD TO THOSE WHO WISH TO COMMUNE:

On the night He was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ gave His true followers a blessed gift; His  ongoing, living, presence among them via a sacramental meal of forgiveness and eternal life.   He "... took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, 'Take, eat; this is my body.'   And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, 'Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins'"  (Matthew 26:26-28).

The Lord‚Äôs Supper, then,¬†is truly a ‚ÄúHoly Communion.‚ÄĚ ¬†The participant receives the true body and blood of Jesus Christ in, with and under the bread and wine.¬† As¬†the holy apostle of the Lord¬†teaches us, ‚ÄúIs not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in (communion) the blood of Christ?¬† Is not the bread which we break a sharing in (communion) the body of Christ‚ÄĚ (I Cor. 10:16).¬† This Holy Communion, therefore, necessitates that all who participate do so in sincere repentance of their sins, in true¬†faith in Jesus as their God and Savior and with full trust in His words¬†that in this sacred meal His body and blood are truly present and given for the forgiveness of his¬†sins.¬†¬† Futhermore, the¬†one who participates¬†is giving a public confession that¬†he holds the same belief as that of all others who commune.¬†¬†The Lord's apostle instructs:¬† "For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.¬† Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord.¬† Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.¬†¬†For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself" (1 Corinthians 11:26-29).

In order that we might rightly administer and make faithful use of this blessed sacrament, we ask that those who wish to commune and are not confirmed members in good standing of Trinity Lutheran Church or another  Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation please speak with the pastor before the service.

Thank you for respecting our practice.
